How to view captioning with Windows Media Player
In order to view captioning, a Windows media file needs to include a SAMI (Synchronized Accessible Media Interchange) file.  Video clips on the HiSoftware site include these files by default.

Next, you need to configure Windows Media Player to show the captioning.

For Windows Media Player 7.0/7.1/8.0:

  1. Click on the Show Equalizer Settings button.  See item 1 in picture below.
  2. Cycle through the equalizer settings until the captioning text appears.  See item 2 in picture below.
  3. Captioning will appear in the block below the video.   See item 3 in picture below.

The Report Settings option allows you to choose whether you want to test your pages in Section 508 Mode, or one of the W3C modes.

You can select to show all detail which is the default, or just the minimum.

You can add the alt text quality custom report found in the test suites folder of the program installation.

You also have options for site quality settings, graphs, customizing the report text and choosing where the reports are stored.

You can check and uncheck the different components that make up the Section 508 and W3C testing.

When ready to select files for testing, move to the File menu.

The Cynthia Says edition allows you to select up to 100 files at a time.

You can select files from your local system or network, either by selecting them individually, or by scanning a folder.

You can enter in a URL to test, or log into an FTP site to get the files.

There is both manual and an automated crawler.

Once you have selected your files, you are ready to test.
